Better still, it was announced earlier this year that Royal Caribbean International, the parent company to Celebrity Cruises, would expand their current plastic straw policy and at the end of 2018 they would no longer offer plastic straws to guests when they were asked. Starting in 2019 all ships will only offer paper straws and will only offer a straw if specifically requested. This is a first great step and one of many already taken by both RCI and Celebrity Cruises in an effort to be more mindful and efficient in their business operations.

Celebrity will be continuing to evolve their sustainability programs into the future with the "revolutionary Celebrity Edge" which will be debuting in December 2018. This cutting "Edge" ship will:
"lead the way into a more environmentally friendly future as the first ship of any major cruise line to set sail without plastic water bottles. Edge will also take major steps to reduce energy consumption (and greenhouse gases) by incorporating a cutting-edge Parabolic Ultra Bow designed to slice more efficiently through the water. Edge will also boast reduced emissions and 20% greater energy efficiency than Celebrity’s previous generation of ships."
