As Virgin Voyages recently announced it has a 4th ship in the works for their new fleet (wow!), we are excited to find out even more about this new cruise brand and their plans for their inaugural 2020 season.

As we inch closer and closer to the highly anticipated first sales date for the Scarlet Lady on February 14th, 2019, we now know that Richard Branson and Virgin Voyage President & CEO Tom McAlpin have been busy not only creating beautifully and uniquely designed ships, but they have also have been working with a top Miami Design Firm, Arquitectonica, (designers of the American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami, Brickell City Centre Complex in Brickell and the Miami City Ballet in South Beach to name a few) to create a mesmerizing new space for their guests and ships.

“…Designed to resemble a palm tree grove, with pockets that allow natural light to flow into the building by day, and gorgeous beams to light up our iconic Virgin Voyages logo (as well as the Miami sky) by night, allowing our future home to shine brightly.”

This two storey glass facility will have a plaza-like feel and will include drop off areas for VIPS, as well as ride-sharing and other areas that will make for a seamless shore to ship experience. It pays homage to the “venerable palms” while giving every sailor an authentic Miami experience from the moment they get the terminal in their sights. According to Virgin Voyages, “In planning to bring life to a slab of hot concrete overlooking the beautiful downtown cityscape, Arquitectonica decided sailors could use a little shade before boarding the scintillating Scarlet Lady.”

“No sight more recognized than the Royal Palm Tree lounging carefree amidst a backdrop of captivating Art Deco design. These palm trees, tall and regal, relaxed yet unwavering, were the inspiration for the structure that will become our sanctuary in the bustling bay.” - Virgin Voyages

This ambitious design plan is still subject to final approval by local authorities in Biscayne Bay, but from the looks of it Virgin Voyages is thinking outside the box with it’s design aesthetic and has come up with something fresh, new and sustainable. They hope to secure LEED Gold Certification from the U.S Green Building Council and Virgin Voyages continues its commitment to sustainability, ocean research and conservation through a wide range of programs and projects.

“South Florida is our home, and with our fleet now growing to four ships, we’re humbled and thankful to soon have a gorgeous new terminal overlooking the Miami skyline, an incredible view that will set the stage for the alluring journey that we will take our sailors on,” said Virgin Voyages President & CEO, Tom McAlpin.
